The BasicsÂ
Score:Â Hollins 48, Randolph-Macon 62
Records: Hollins 8-5 / 2-4 ODAC | Yellow Jackets 12-1 / 5-0 ODAC
The Lead:Â For the third time in as many games, Hollins took the court against one of the top teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). A Saturday trip to Randolph-Macon would see Hollins come out hot, taking an early lead and found themselves up, 21-14, after the opening quarter of play. A 10-0 run by the Yellow Jackets put the home team in front at the break. HU kept it close but a 7-2 end to the third coupled with a 6-0 start to the fourth allowed the home team to pull away for the 62-48 ODAC win.
HighlightsÂ
- A Zaria Holden three-pointer to start the afternoon would give Hollins a lead they would hold throughout the opening 10-minutes. Grayson Alfano connected from deep and Sarah Morales made it an 8-0 start by HU. Another Alfano jumper made it 19-12 before a Macon run to close the frame made it 21-14.
- After a Yellow Jacket 10-0 start to the second, Noelani Carter scored in the paint to cut the deficit to 24-23. Hollins trailed by just one before the Jackets closed the half with four straight to make it 30-25 at the break.
- Another Alfano three cut it to two before Randolph-Macon regained control. Another Hollins run capped by a Morales deuce made it 41-39 but it was the home team that scored seven of the final nine to take a seven-point advantage into the final period.
- The Yellow Jackets seized control with a 6-0 run. Morales cut the deficit to 2 in the closing minutes but that would be as close as Hollins could get, falling to RMC 62-48 as the Yellow Jackets remained undefeated in ODAC play.
- Morales (15) and Alfano (14) led the Hollins offense. Morales grabbed a team high 11 rebounds and handed out four assists. Carter paced the defense with four steals and Erin Allen blocked a pair of shots.
