The Lead: The 2024 volleyball season got under way with a trip to Latrobe (Pa.) to compete in the St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge. In the opener, the Green and Gold would find themselves tied 2-2 with the Barons. The fifth set was tied at 18-18 when HU picked up the final two points of the match to secure the 3-2 win. HU was unable to hold that momentum as Westminster jumped on HU early and took the tightly contested match, 3-0.
Highlights 
  • Hollins defeated Franciscan 16-25, 25-15, 25-22, 10-25, 20-28.
  • Sophia Maurer and Cassidy Henderson led the offense with nine kills apiece. Alyssa Reed added seven and Selena Wolfe finished with six kills. Anisia Dean and Rachel Hull combined to record 30 of Hollins 38 assists.
  • On defense, Maurer, Wolfe, and Sydney Mitchell each recorded one solo block. Reed added five service aces while Maurer accounted for 18 digs. Reed and Henderson also registered double-digit digs.
  • Hollins fell to Westminster 23-25, 21-25, 22-25.
  • Peyton Bartholow posted four of Hollins nine service aces and added seven digs.
  • Maurer paced the offense with 12 kills and the defense with a solo block and 16 digs. Hull led the way with 12 assists.
Up Next: Hollins will wrap up play tomorrow with a match against the host before completing their four-match weekend when they face off with Bethany.
