The Basics

The Lead: Hollins took their home floor for the final time during the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night when they hosted Randolph College. The WildCats got the better of HU in Lynchburg earlier this season in an overtime contest. Hollins took a six-point lead after the first quarter and held a 28-22 halftime cushion. The third quarter belonged to the Green and Gold as Hollins built their lead to as many as 16 in the second half on their way to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win 59-48.
Highlights 
  • Sarah Morales scored to open the game and after Randolph had taken the lead, back-to-back three-pointers by Zaria Holden and Missy Hazard would put Hollins ahead for the rest of the evening. Holden added a jumper at the end of the first quarter for a 15-9 advantage.
  • A 6-1 WildCat run made it a one-point game. Hazard and Holden combined to push the lead to seven and led to a six-point halftime lead.
  • Cabria Mutz scored in the paint to spark a Hollins surge in the opening minutes of the second half staking HU to a double-digit edge. Hazard pushed the lead to 15 with a 3-pointer at the 3:21 mark and Hollins would take a 13-point lead into the fourth period.
  • Iyana Sigei gave Hollins her largest lead of the evening when she connected from long range to make it 50-34. Randolph cut it to eight, but five straight free throws would put the game away as Hollins took their home finale, 59-48.
  • Hazard led a balanced attack with 13 points while Morales added 12 and Holden scored 10. Mutz scored 10 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and five blocked shots. Noelani Carter had eight points and three steals while she and Morales each grabbed six boards. Sigei hit a pair of timely three-pointers that put Hollins in firm control of the game.
Up Next: A short trip to Salem to face Roanoke College is scheduled for next Wednesday. The game with the Maroons is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00pm.
