The Lead:Â For the second time this season, Hollins would take the court against the University of Lynchburg. The Hornets won big in the Hill City with Hollins looking to even the season record against their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals. The game got off to a slow start, but Lynchburg took control midway through the opening quarter and built a double-digit lead at the half. The second 20-minutes would be more of the same as the Hornets completed the season sweep of Hollins, 33-72.
HighlightsÂ
- Sarah Morales scored the opening bucket and after a Lynchburg answer, the game was tied about midway through the opening stanza. The Hornets used an 8-0 run to seize control and take an 18-8 lead into the first break.
- Ariana Gutierrez and Morales cut the deficit to six, but that would be as close as HU was the rest of the afternoon. Lynchburg led 41-19 at the half.
- Cabria Mutz and Zaria Holden combined for the first points of the second half, but once again Lynchburg took back the momentum winning the third quarter, 10-7.
- The fourth period belonged to the visitors as they went deep into their bench to continue to rotate fresh bodies on their way to the ODAC win.
- Mutz had seven points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots while Holden paced the Green and Gold with 11 and Morales added six. Noelani Carter shined defensively with three steals to go with a pair of assists.
Up Next:Â Hollins will defend her home court for the final time this season when they welcome Randolph College to town on Wednesday night. The home finale with the WildCats is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm.
