The Lead:Â Hollins was back in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play after a break for the Thanksgiving holiday when they hosted Lynchburg on Wednesday night. The Green and Gold would lead for much of the first half before seeing the Hornets up 29-27 at the break. Hollins immediately retook the advantage and built their second half lead to as many as six points. However, Lynchburg would mount a late rally, scoring 14 of the final 16 points of the night to pick up the 61-54. conference win.
HighlightsÂ
- Tied at 7-7, Zaria Holden started and Noelani Carter finished a 6-0 run to put Hollins in front. An Erin Allen layup in the closing minute would give HU a 17-9 edge after the first quarter of play.
- On two different occasions the lead would grow to double digits. First on another Allen hoop and when Sarah Morales hit a jump shot just before the media timeout, it was Hollins with a 15-25 lead. Lynchburg closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 29-27 lead into the locker room.
- With the score tied at 33-33, Cabria Mutz hit a layup followed by a Holden jump shot to help the home team to the lead. The advantage would grow to six but a pair of free throws and a layup at the buzzer would see Hollins in front by just three heading into the fourth.
- Morales pushed the lead to 50-45 with just over seven-minutes left to play. Hollins clung to a two-point lead at the final media timeout only to see an 11-2 finish by the Hornets for the seven-point win, 61-54.
- Morales matched her career high with 21 points on 9-17 shooting. The sophomore guard added six rebounds and five assists while Mutz finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots. Holden had 10 points with four assists and Carter registered five points and handed out six helpers.
Up Next:Â Hollins will go on the road in ODAC play for the first time on Saturday when they make the trip to Danville to face Averett for a 2:00pm tip with the Cougars.
