Record Start for the Green and Gold

The Basics
Score: Hollins 65, Agnes Scott 35
Records: Hollins 4-0 / 0-0 ODAC | Scotties 0-5

The Lead: The NCAA started to recognize and sponsor a national championship in Women's Basketball in 1981-82, and since then Hollins had never started a season with four consecutive wins, until tonight. The Green and Gold made history when the 2024-25 edition picked up a 65-35 win over Agnes Scott to run their early season record to 4-0.

Highlights
  • The Scotties raced out to a 5-1 lead. Hollins started a rally when Cabria Mutz scored ahead of back-to-back baskets by Sarah Morales. Noelani Carter scored to make it 9-8 after one period of play.
  • Grayson Alfano scored to start a second quarter that would see Hollins go on to hold their guests scoreless for the first seven minutes. When Missy Hazard hit a three-pointer, Hollins had completed a 19-0 run to put the game away.
  • After a bit of a rally by Agnes Scott, Hollins got buckets for Morales and Alfano to push the lead to 25.
  • An 8-0 run to start the fourth would be more than enough for Hollins to record their record setting fourth consecutive win to start a season in the NCAA era.
  • Morales and Hazard paced HU with 12 points apiece while Ariana Gutierrez came off the bench to score 11 of Hollins 23 bench points. Mutz had her second dominate defensive effort in as many games with 12 rebounds, two steals and six blocked shots. Carter filled up the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Up Next: Hollins takes their perfect record into their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener against Roanoke College on Tuesday afternoon. The early start time versus the Maroons is scheduled for 5:00pm.
