The Lead: For the first time since 2004, Hollins basketball has started the season 3-0 after hosting Virginia University of Lynchburg in their home opener. Hollins used an 18-8 opening quarter to take a lead that they would hold throughout on their way to a 55-47 home win over the Dragons.

Highlights
  • Cabria Mutz scored to open the game and sparked a 6-0 run that would put Hollins in front. Back-to-back hoops by Noelani Carter and Zaria Holden got the advantage to eight and after a Dragon score, Arian Gutierrez hit a three to push the lead to 10.
  • The Green and Gold would be held scoreless for over four minutes in a stretch of the second quarter that got VUL back in the game. HU went 5-6 from the free throw line to get the lead back to nine but a buzzer beating three-ball by the visitors made it 27-21 at the break.
  • VUL cut their deficit to three but a run that featured a Missy Hazard three and capped by two Erin Allen free throws and the Green and Gold were back up by 10, 34-24.
  • A late three-pointer by the Dragons made it a six-point game. Hollins used the free throw line, 19-26 for the night, to hold on for the eight-point win and matched the 2004-05 team with a 3-0 start to the season.
  • Holden led with 12 points and seven rebounds while Sarah Morales added 10 points and six boards. Mutz grabbed a game high 12 rebound to go with five blocks and five steals.
