The Lead:Â The Hollins volleyball team hosted Ferrum College on Tuesday night in a matchup of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes, each looking for their first conference win of the season. The Green and Gold would hold leads late in each of the three sets only to see the Panthers rally to take the match in straight sets, 3-0.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins fell to Ferrum 22-25, 24-26, 25-27.
- A pair of Sophia Maurer kills sparked a 5-0 run to give HU a 22-20 edge in the opening set. However, Ferrum ended the frame on a 5-0 run to take the first set, 25-22.
- In the second, Hollins led 21-19 before a 3-0 run by the visitors. HU rallied to tie it at 24-24 but once again the Panthers struck late to take a 2-0 lead. In the third, the home team was up 24-22 only to see another Ferrum rally, falling to their guests, 3-0, in ODAC play.
- HU matched Ferrum with 32 kills and enjoyed a 13-9 advantage in service aces. It would be 26 Hollins hitting errors (19 for Ferrum) that proved to be the difference in the match.
- Maurer led all attackers with 14 kills to go with four service aces and 13 digs. Alyssa Reed added seven kills with Cassidy Henderson and Selena Wolfe recording five kills apiece.
- Anisia Dean handed out 24 assists with Rachel Hull leading the defense with 16 digs. Reed (5), Hull (4), and Maurer accounted for all 14 of the team's service aces.
Up Next:Â Hollins will have to wait until next Tuesday to get back on the court when they host Averett at 6:30pm.
