The Lead:Â For the second time in less than 24-hours, Hollins faced off with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition when Virgia Wesleyan came to campus for an early Saturday morning matchup. The Marlins broke open a close first set with six straight points to close. Trailing 2-0, Hollins looked to rally and used a 4-0 run to see the set tied at 24-24. However, Virginia Wesleyan scored the final two points to close out the ODAC win.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins fell to Virginia Wesleyan 19-25, 9-25, 24-26.
- Back-to-back kills by Alyssa Reed staked Hollins to a 16-15 lead in the first. The set would be tied at 19-19 before the Marlins scored the final six points to take the frame.
- In the third, a service ace by Brenna rea and a VWU miscue would see HU with a 23-22 edge. Sophia Maurer recorded a kill to make it 24-24, but the Marlins got back-to-back kills to hold off the Green and Gold as the rally fell short.
- Reed (8) and Maurer (6) led the Hollins attack with Anisia Dean assisting on 15 of the team's 19 kills.
- Rachel Hull led a quartet of HU defenders in double-digits with 18 digs. Maurer, Cassidy Henderson, and Sydney Mitchell assisted on two blocks each and Maurer added three more aces to her ODAC leading total of 38.
