The Lead: The Green and Gold was back on the road Wednesday night with a trip to North Carolina to face Guilford College in a rematch of an earlier game. The Quakers won in Roanoke on December 6th (66-57) as Hollins looked to get a bit of revenge. The home team took an early lead and built it to a double-digit advantage. Hollins closed the first half on a 9-4 run to make it 32-26 at the break. Hollins used a 22-17 third period to make it a one-point game. The Quakers pulled away in the fourth quarter before Hollins mounted one last rally. HU cut the deficit to four on a couple of occasions but in the end, they couldn't complete the comeback and fell 64-61.

Highlights 
  • The home team raced out to a 10-5 lead before Hollins closed the gap and tied the game at 10-10 on a three-pointer by Missy Hazard. Iyana Sigei tied the score at 12-12 only to see Guilford close the frame with a 5-0 surge.
  • With 4:00 to play before the half, the Quakers had built a 13-point lead. Cabria Mutz hit back-to-back hoops to get the deficit in single digits. Sarah Morales made it 28-24 with a long 3-pointer but Guilford would extend their advantage and take a 32-26 lead into the locker room.
  • The teams would trade baskets with Zaria Holden making it 36-32 at the media timeout. Holden finished the three point play out of the break to make it a one possession game. Holden scored again ahead of a three-point play by Morales put HU in front 38-36. Noelani Carter scored to make it 48-44 but Guilford again closed the quarter with a run and took a 49-48 edge into the finale.
  • Guilford seemed poised pull away when they grew the lead to 57-48 with just five minutes remaining. Erin Allen started a 9-4 run and when she hit a pair of free throws the Guilford lead was down to four 61-57. As the clocked ticked down, Allen scored a layup to make it 64-61 however the buzzer sounded and time had expired.
  • Morales, Holden, and Allen each scored 12 while Mutz added eight points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Morales and Hazard each handed out four helpers with Allen and Carter recording five steals apiece.
