The Lead:Â On Saturday, Hollins took a break from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule to host Regent in a non-conference matchup. HU broke open a close game in the second quarter and pulled away for the 83-67 non-conference victory.
HighlightsÂ
- Cabria Mutz answered a Regent game opening hoop ahead of a Missy Hazard three-pointer that would give Hollins a lead they would hold throughout the game. Another Hazard long ball gave HU an eight-point lead but the Royals would cut their deficit to four, 15-11, after one quarter of play.
- A layup by Zaria Holden followed by Hazard connecting from long range to push the Hollins edge into double-digits. The led grew to as many as 18 before Hollins went into the half with a 14-point cushion.
- Holden pushed the lead to 20 about midway through the third period. The teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the frame and when Destiny Hoover hit a pair of free throws, the HU lead would be 57-38.
- The fourth quarter featured a parade to the free throw line that would see the visitors take the quarter (29-26) but Hollins would take the game 83-67.
- Hazard went 7-17 from long range on her way to a career high 25 points. Holden added 16 points and 11 rebounds with Noelani Carter scoring 14. Sarah Morales handed out six of HU's 22 assists.
