The Lead:Â For the second consecutive home game, Hollins would play host to one of the top four teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Bridgewater College would make the trip south to face the Green and Gold. The game would feature six ties and five lead changes as Hollins played yet another close ODAC game. However, it was Bridgewater that was able to hold on late for the 56-53 conference win.
HighlightsÂ
- Trailing 5-10, Noelani Carter would help Hollins close the opening frame on a 4-3 run to go into the first break down 13-9.
- Cabria Mutz and Sarah Morales scored the first six points of the second quarter and after a pair of Carter free throws, HU led 17-13. The Eagles scored eight of the next 10 and retook the lead but Carter made 22-21 with a three-pointer at the 2:50 mark. The game was tied before a late jumper put BC in front, 27-25, at the half.
- Mutz quickly tied the score to open the third, but it would be 9-0 run by the visitors that forced a timeout from coach Emilee Dunton. Hollins rallied to tie the game at 39-39 on a Zaria Holden free throw before Bridgewater scored four in the final minute of the period.
- At the 7:00 minute mark of the fourth quarter, Hollins was down eight but a pair of offensive rebounds by Mutz followed by a Destiny Hoover jump shot got HU back into the game. With 4:26 remaining, BC pushed their advantage to 12 before Hollins mounted one last rally. Holden got HU to withing four but that was as close as the Green and Gold could get as Bridgewater held on for the 53-59 victory.
- Morales, the ODAC's leading first-year scorer, led Hollins with 13 points. Mutz posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards while adding four blocked shots and five steals. Holden led the reserves with 10 points and two assists while Carter finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Hoover added four helpers and five rebounds.
Up Next:Â The team will travel to Danville on Wednesday to face Averett for a 7:00pm tip-off.
