The Lead: After falling to Lynchburg last night, HU returned to the Hill City for a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon. In an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup with Randolph, the Green and Gold would fall to the WildCats 3-0. In the second match, Hollins would turn the 3-0 score in their favor with a non-conference win over Virginia University of Lynchburg.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins fell to the WildCats: 10-25, 13-25, 19-25.
- Randolph used a 35-21 edge in kills and a huge, 18 error discrepancy to control the action throughout.
- Sophia Maurer led all attackers with nine kills. Jaelyn Werley had 15 HU assists and Zo Miranda led the back row with 15 digs.
- Hollins topped VUL: 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.
- Hollins took advantage at the net with 31 kills and aided by 11 service aces, HU earned the straight sets win.
- The first set was close late, but back-to-back kills by Makhaila Johnson would seal the set for Hollins.
- The Green and Gold used a 5-1 and 6-0 start to the next two frames to complete the sweep.
- Maurer, Selena Wolfe and Faith Schaefer each had seven kills in a balanced Hollins attack that would see seven different attackers earn points. Werely had 21 of the team's 25 assists while Miranda added 18 more digs. Maurer (4) and Wolfe (3) had seven service aces with Wolfe adding a pair of solo blocks.
