The Basics

The Lead: Friday night marked the first of three straight matches in the Hill City for a Hollins squad looking to get back in the win column. Lynchburg would greet the Green and Gold with a 5-0 start on their way to a 1-0 lead. HU Looked to take the second set, but a 4-0 run followed by a 5-0 spurt by the Hornets gave the home team a 2-0 edge. The third frame would go into extra points; however, Lynchburg pulled it out for the straight sets win.
Highlights 
  • Hollins fell to the Hornets: 15-25, 20-25, 25-27. 
  • After falling in the opener, Hollins used a Faith Schaefer service ace to take a 4-1 edge. A 4-0, followed by a 5-0, Lynchburg run would see the Hornets up 16-10 to take a two-set lead.
  • Three Hornet miscues and a Sophia Maurer kill put HU up 7-4. Cassidy Henderson started with a kill and Schafer added a kill at the end of a 6-1 Hollins run that put the visitors up 13-6. Up 17-9, Hollins would see Lynchburg storm back and tie the match at 24-24. The Hornets ended the night with a 3-1 run to take the ODAC match, 3-0.
  • Maurer led with eight kills while Schaefer and Henderson added six. Jaelyn Werley assisted on 17 points with Selena Wolfe finishing with four kills, two assists, a service ace and seven digs.
