The Lead: The Green and Gold continued on the road with a pair of matches in Virginia Beach. Hollins fell behind the Marlins early as the top team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) defeated HU in straight sets. Later in the afternoon, Hollins fell behind Regent early. The road weary HU squad could not mount a comeback and fell to the Royals, 3-0.
Highlights
  • Hollins fell to Va. Wesleyan: 22-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11.
  • The Marlins got the morning off to a 5-0 start and took that momentum to control the match throughout. A 41-18 edge at the net would see Virginia Wesleyan cruise to the 3-0 win.
  • Jaelyn Werley handed out 16 assists while Faith Schaefer and Carrie Nelson combined for 10 kills, five apiece. Zo Miranda had a team high seven digs and Schaefer added a solo block.
  •  Regent defeated HU: 25-22, 25-25, 25-22.
  • Hollins led 21-20 in the opening set, but Regent ended the frame with a 5-1 run to take the set. A 6-1 Royal start to the second set put the Green and Gold in a 2-0 hole. Hollins withstood another quick Royal start to battle back to tie the set at 19-19. But once again, it would be the home team finishing strong to take the set and the match.
  • Schaefer had nine and Nelson finished with seven kills. Werley assisted on 22 of Hollins 30 kills while Miranda registered 11 digs. Werley added eight digs and a pair of service aces.
