The Lead:Â The Hollins volleyball team started a week long road trip with a stop to face Washington and Lee on Tuesday evening. The heavily favored Generals raced to a 1-0 lead in taking the first set. The Green and Gold were much more competitive the remainder of the match but would still fall to the Generals, 3-0, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
HighlightsÂ
- HU fell to Washington and Lee 9-25, 14-25, 18-25.Â
- The Generals would score the first seven and 13 of the first 14 points of the match to seize control. During the three sets, W&L used a 29-19 hitting advantage to control the action for much of the match.
- Hollins got to within seven late in the second set but couldn't complete the comeback.
- Trailing 6-2, Sophia Maurer served HU to even at 6-6 in the third frame. However, the home team used a 12-3 run to end any comeback hopes for HU.
- Maurer recorded nine of the team's 19 kills with Carrie Nelson adding five. Jaelyn Werley assisted on 17 points while Nelson led the back row with 10 digs. Maurer added a solo block and two service aces.
Up Next:Â Next up is a trip to Ashland on Friday night to face Randolph-Macon, another of the ODAC's top teams.
