Two in a Row for Hollins

Score: Hollins 76 | Trinity (DC) 67
Records: Hollins 3-15 | Tigers 2-13
Location: Roanoke, Va.

The Lead: For the second time this week, Hollins would find themselves down at halftime of a non-conference matchup. After rallying to defeat Virginia University of Lynchburg on Tuesday night, the Green and Gold looked at a 37-32 deficit to Trinity on Friday. Hollins once again rallied and took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. HU would grow the lead to 11 in the closing minutes and picked up a 76-67 win over the Tigers.

Highlights:
  • Hollins raced out to a 9-2 edge thanks to three pointers by Ariana Gutierrez and Moriah Hill. The Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game before Cabria Mutz scored three and Gutierrez hit another triple to make it a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play.
  •  Noelani Carter scored five straight after Trinity had cut the HU advantage to one. However, the visitors closed the first half by scoring 23 of the next 36 points to take a 37-32 lead into the break.
  • Hill scored five and after a Rebekah Funderburk bucket in the paint, the game would be tied at 41-41. Two 3-pointers by Gutierrez and another by Hill took the HU advantage to 50-44. After seeing Trinity retake the lead, a Mutz jump shot followed by a Carter layup and HU was up 57-56 heading into the fourth period.
  • The lead would trade hands twice before Mackinzie Henninger hit a three and then followed up her own miss for a 5-0 run to give Hollins the lead for good. Hill and Gutierrez scored to push the advantage to double digits as Hollins would win for the second time this week, 76-67.
  • Gutierrez scored a career high 24 to go with eight rebounds. Hill hit five three-pointers on her way to 19 and Carter added 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Mutz just missed another double-double with nine points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
  • Brenae Ford (16) and Taryn Yancey(15) accounted for 31 of the Tiger's 67 points.
