Rematch Goes to Eagles

Score: Hollins 42 | Bridgewater 82
Records: Hollins 4-17 / 1-15 ODAC | Eagles 17-5 / 12-4 ODAC
Location: Bridgewater, Va.

The Lead: For the second time this season, Hollins faced Bridgewater College. After falling to the Eagles at home back in January, Hollins went searching to get back on track against the heavily favored Eagles. The home team would take advantage of the road weary visitors and race out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter of play. The Eagles would not let HU get back into the game as Bridgewater picked up the conference win, 82-42
Highlights:
  • Bridgewater scored first but after a Moriah Hill layup, the score was tied at 4-4. 13 straight Eagle points would put Hollins down early. HU scored the final points of the quarter, a Cabria Mutz jumper, but after 10 minutes of play, BC led 23-8.
  • The Eagles didn't slow down, scoring the first 10 points of the second period, a run that was finally stopped by a pair of Noelani Carter free throws. Hollins began to get some stops but at the half it was Bridgewater with a 47-19 advantage.
  • Five consecutive points by Carter followed by free throws from Hill and Mutz would help Hollins creep closer, but BC closed the frame on an 11-4 run to re-establish control.
  • Late in the game, back-to-back baskets by Ariana Gutierrez and Rebekah Funderburk allowed Hollins to play even but two free throws by BC would make the final 82-42.
  • Mutz had 10 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots while Hill added 10 points and seven boards. Gutierrez finished with nine and Carter had seven points with eight rebounds.
  • Jaden Alsberry led a balanced Eagle attack with 13 points and seven boards.
Up Next: No rest for the weary as Hollins will not return to campus, instead travel to Washington D.C. to play Trinity tomorrow at 2:00pm.
