The Basics
Score:
Hollins 38, Washington and Lee 70
Records: Hollins 3-3 / 0-3 ODAC | Generals 5-1 / 2-0 ODAC

The Lead: After taking a few days off to celebrate Thanksgiving, the Hollins basketball team was back in action on Sunday with a visit from the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Champions, Washington and Lee. The Generals came into the matchup off a tough non-conference loss to Emory while the Green and Gold looked to improve on their current two-game win streak. A slow start would have the Green and Gold playing from behind most of the afternoon. Trailing at the half, 45-15, Hollins would play their guests virtually even over the final two quarters, falling to W&L, 70-38.
Highlights
  • After a 6-0 start by the Generals, Ariana Gutierrez hit a three-pointer to cut the lead in half. A Missy Hazard 3-ball made it 8-6 before Washington and Lee scored seven in a row. Back-to-back three-pointers by the visitors would close the first frame, 21-9.
  • A Cabria Mutz layup would be the only HU points in an opening 13-2 run by W&L. Noelani Carter would be the only other home scorer, a pair of hoops, in a quarter that would see the Generals push the lead to 45-15 at the break.
  • Sarah Morales would score five of Hollins' nine points in the third quarter.
  • Hollins got a Moriah Hill layup followed by baskets by Carter and Morales to spark a 6-0 run that would help the Green and Gold take the final period, 14-8.
  • Carter and Morales would finish with eight points apiece with Gutierrez adding six and Hill adding five more bench points. Destiny Hoover, Erin Allen, and Morales each grabbed six rebounds with Mutz securing four boards and blocking five shots. Carter handed out four helpers as Hollins had 15 assists and their 16 made baskets.
Up Next: Hollins will travel to the Hill City to face Randolph College on Wednesday night. The opening-tip with the WildCats is scheduled for 7:00pm.
