Panthers Wear Down Hollins

Hollins vs Ferrum | Wednesday, October 4, 2023 | Roanoke, Va.

The Basics

Score:
 Ferrum 9, Hollins 0
Records: Hollins 1-7 / 0-4 ODAC | Panthers 6-3-1 / 1-2 ODAC

The Lead: The Hollins soccer team returned home to face Ferrum on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers scored at the 6:46 mark to take an early lead. The Hollins defense settled in but due to a 25-2 shot discrepancy, Ferrum would take a lead into the break. A quick score out of the half would end any thoughts of an HU rally as the visitors would take the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup, 9-0.
Highlights
  • A rebound off the top post would allow the Panthers an early advantage.
  • Down 2-0, Hayley Ponn god a good lock at the 18-minute mark but the shot went just left of the net.
  • A few minutes later, Hollins got a corner kick, but the Anna Starman shot was off the mark. Ferrum would take advantage of a tired Hollins defense to put the match away with four straight scores before the halftime horn.
  • Ponn and Grace Glerum would each get off two shots to pace the Hollins offense. Cat Bussani went the distance in goal and recorded 15 saves, bringing her ODAC leading save total to 51 for the season.
Up Next: The Green and Gold will host cross-town rival Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
