The Lead: Hollins stepped out of conference for a makeup game with Virginia University of Lynchburg on Tuesday night. The first quarter would see Hollins take a three-point edge. However, VUL used a 16-7 second frame to take a six point advantage into the break. The Green and Gold came out in the third quarter and pushed the pace to a tune of 20-6 and held on from there to claim the 54-48 victory.

Highlights:
  • The Dragons scored first but four straight points by Ariana Gutierrez and a pair of Cabria Mutz free throws and Hollins enjoyed a 6-2 advantage. VUL rallied to take a three-point lead but a Rebekah Funderburk jumper followed by back-to-back Mutz layups and the quarter would end with HU up 15-12.
  • The second period belonged to the visitors as they took an eight point lead with 3:00 left before the half. Mutz scored and a Moriah Hill three-pointer would see the deficit at six, 28-22, at the break.
  • Hill got the second half off to a quick start with another three-ball. A pair of Mutz hoops and Hollins was back in front. Hollins turned the tables on their guests with a 20-6 third frame and led by eight.
  • A Funderburk jump shot gave HU their largest led of the night, 47-34. VUL got the deficit down to four on a couple occasions but each time Hollins would respond, first with a Funderburk layup and then a pair of Hill free throws in the closing seconds would seal the win, 54-48.
