Location: Winchester, Va.

The Lead: The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) defending Champion, Shenandoah, welcomed Hollins to Winchester for a Saturday afternoon matchup. Hollins fell to SU, in their ODAC opener way back in mid-November. The Hornets used a 16-7 second period to pull away from HU. The Green and Gold would hang tough during the second half but it would be the home team that would secure the conference win, 49-32.

Highlights:
  • A Cabria Mutz jump shot would get Hollins on the board but it was Shenandoah that raced out to an early advantage, 7-2. Ariana Gutierrez and Noelani Carter each made a free throw and when Mutz went one of two from the strip, the score was 9-5 with two-minutes left in the opening quarter.
  • Leading 12-5, the Hornets went on a 13-4 run to open the second frame and take a 16-point lead into the locker room.
  • Mutz and Carter each scored after a Moriah Hill jumper to close the gap. With 3:24 left in the quarter, a Carter layup got the deficit back to single digits, 33-24. However, six straight by SU pushed the lead back to 15.
  • Hollins would trail by 21, Shenandoah's largest lead, but a pair of Mille Shaw free throws and three points from Gutierrez would make the final 49-37.
  • Mutz finished with 10 points and seven rebounds while Carter added seven points, each would not finish the afternoon after being disqualified on fouls. Gutierrez scored five to go with five rebounds.
  • Terese Greene paced all scorers with 16 as no other Hornet would score more than six.
Up Next: Hollins steps out of conference for a game with Virginia University of Lynchburg on Tuesday at 7pm. The game with VUL is a makeup from a postponed contest back in late December.
