The Lead: The Hollins volleyball team hosted a pair of opponents on Saturday afternoon. Hollins used a huge service game to defeat the Virginia University of Lynchburg 3-0. In the second match, Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Randolph got the better of the Green and Gold for the 3-0 conference win.

Highlights 

  • HU beat VUL by the set scores of 25-8, 25-6, 25-4
  • Hollins would use 39 service aces to dominate play against the Dragons.  
  • Hollins was Kundai Manyara and Sophia Maurer with three kills apiece. It was the service game that would rule the afternoon as Jaelyn Werley (14) and Maurer (13) would combine for 27 of HU's 39 aces. Leslie Lu Walker and Maurer each recorded two digs.
  • In the loss, HU dropped the three games by the scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16. 
  • Carrie Nelson led the net attack with seven kills to match Maurer for team high honors. The duo would combine on five blocks on defense.
  • Setter Zoe Brooks handed out 15 assists while Kenna Esquibel led the back row with eight digs.

Up Next: Hollins travels to Winston-Salem for a match with Salem College on Monday at 6:00pm.
