Day One of Captains Classic Sees Hollins Drop a Pair of Matches

The Lead: The Hollins volleyball team opened the first day of the Captains Classic on Friday afternoon in Newport News, Va. Hollins lost to the host Christopher Newport in their opening match and fell to 0-2 with a loss later in the evening to Wisconsin-Oshkosh. 

Highlights 

  • HU lost to CNU by game scores of 25-7, 25-10, 25-13. 
  • The Captains used a 33-11 kill advantage while hitting over 36% to control the matchup throughout.  
  • Hollins was led by Selena Wolfe and Kenna Esquibel with three kills apiece. Aden Watts and Zoe Brooks each handed out four assists while Zoe Miranda recorded a team high with six digs.
  • In the loss to the Titans, HU dropped the three games by the scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-23. 
  • Sophia Maurer led HU with a team-high seven kills and Faith Schaefer chipped in with six kills of her own. Brooks dished 12 assists while Miranda registered 15 digs and Schaefer recorded one solo block.  

Up Next: Hollins is back in action Saturday in Day two with matches against Lewis & Clark at 9am and wrapping up tournament play with a match against Juniata at 11am.
