Pre-Exam Visit from Lynchburg

The Lead: With Thursday marking the final day of classes at Hollins for the fall semester, the Hornets of Lynchburg made the trip west to face HU on Wednesday night. Hollins would score first and take an early 6-2 lead, but Lynchburg would not allow another Hollins point until just over two minutes left to play before the half. The Hornets hit nine, three-pointers on their way to their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season, 84-33. 

Highlights:
  • Rebekah Funderburk hit a jumper to start the scoring. After a Lynchburg hoop, Cabria Mutz scored in the paint and Noelani Carter hit a pair of free throws to put HU up 6-2. 
  • The Hornets scored the final 16 points of the first quarter and the first 15 points of the second to pull away. Sarah Bell would final break the Lynchburg run and the game would go into the half with the visitors enjoying a 39-11 advantage.
  • Lynchburg hit just one from long range in the first half but they used a 3-5 third quarter and 5-10 fourth to hit nine 3-pointers on the night.
  •  Moriah Hill hit 2-5 from long range and made all three of her free throws to pace HU with 13 points to go with six boards. Carter finished with six while Mutz scored four points and pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.
  • All 14 players that saw action for Lynchburg would score, led by 15 points from Sarah Johnson.
Up Next: Hollins will go into the exam period before taking some time off for the holidays. The next game for the Green and Gold will be a January 4th trip to Salem to face Roanoke College..
