Location: Roanoke, Va.

The Lead: Eastern Mennonite came to Roanoke for a Saturday afternoon ODAC matchup. In a game that would see five ties and five lead changes, the Royals built as much as a 17-point lead in the second half, including taking a 16-point edge into the final quarter. Hollins came back to make it 62-60 in the closing minute. After one last Hollins defensive stop, the Green and Gold could not get the final shot of the game to fall and it would be EMU picking up their first conference win of the season.

Highlights:
  • Noelani Carter hit a free throw to start the game. After a Royal three-pointer, a jumper by Moriah Hill and layup from Rebekah Funderburk, Hollins was back in front. Carter scored to make it 16-10, but Eastern Mennonite closed the opening frame on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 16-16.
  • A Hill 3-pointer and layup by Cabria Mutz saw HU in front by five, 23-18. However the Royals would once again seize control by virtue of playing the final seven minutes to a 17-4 score and securing an eight point cushion at the half.
  • Another quarter win by the visitors by eight would see Hollins down 16 heading into the final period of play.
  •  Hollins held the Royals scoreless for the first three minutes and after a Millie Shaw three-pointer, the deficit was down to nine, 57-48.
  • Five points by Mutz and a Mackinzie Henninger 3-ball made it 61-56 with just over four minutes remaining.
  • In the closing minute, back-to-back layups by Funderburk and Carter made it 61-60 and forcing HU to foul. With nine ticks left on the clock, EMU hit one of two from the stripe and Hollins would have one last chance. The Royal defense was able to make a game saving stop and the clock would expire with the Green and Gold falling, 62-60.
  • Mutz finished with 14 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots. Hill added 14 points before fouling out. Carter had nine points, to go with nine boards, six assists, and three steals. Henninger added 10 points off the bench.
  • Mya Hamlet led all scorers with 21 points. Bri Redfearn registered a double-double with 13 and 11 while Lauryn Moore hit 4-8 from long range to add 14 points.
