The Lead: Hollins took the court against Salisbury in the third, and final, game of the 2022 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Roanoke College. The Seagulls used a barrage of three pointers to build a big lead at the half. Hollins would hang around in the final 20 minutes, but wer unable to come back against Salisbury.
Highlights:
- A 9-0 run to start the game by the Seagulls would put Hollins behind for most of the afternoon. Noelani Carter scored to stop the run and as the quarter came to a close, a Rebekah Funderburk jump shot made it 17-9 after 10 minutes of play.
- After a pair of Carter free throws, HU had cut the deficit to six points. However, that would be as close as Hollins would be the remainder of the afternoon.
- The first half would see Salisbury hit seven of 16 from long range for 21 points that Hollins couldn't match as the Green and Gold was down 38-18 at the break.
- Cabria Mutz scored followed by two more made Carter free throws and the gap was cut to 40-23 at the 7:38 mark of the third. The momentum went back to the Seagulls as Salisbury closed the quarter with a 17-8 surge that ended any idea of a comeback.
- Carter finished with a career high 21 ponts, four rebounds, and three steals. Funderburk had six points and six boards before being disqualified on fouls. Moriah Hill added eight points with Mutz grabbing a team high seven rebounds.
- Nadia Bullock hit a trio of triples on her way to 13 while Ashlynn Burrows added 12 points. Post player Emily Dilger just missed a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
