The Lead: Hollins welcomed Regent to campus for an early Friday evening matchup. The Green and Gold trailed by just two points at the break. The third quarter would see HU put up 24 points and looked to pull away. Leading by double digits late, Hollins would have to hold off a Regent rally to claim their first win of the season, 59-54, and even their record at 1-1.

Highlights:
  • Rebekah Funderburk hit a pair of free throws to start the evening as the two teams would trade the lead back and forth. However, with the game tied at 6-6, the Royals closed the period with an 8-3 surge to take a 14-9 lead.
  • A three-pointer by Ariana Gutierrez put HU back in front 19-18, but the lead would go to visitors. Gutierrez then hit a pair o free throws making it 25-24, before Regent once again closed the frame on a run to take a two point lead into the break.
  • Trailing 29-24, Cabria Mutz scored four straight to tie and a Noelani Carter rebound and coast-to-coast score would put Hollins in front. A Sarah Bell layup sparked a 14-4 Holiins run to close the third and HU took and 11-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • The lead grew to 14 with just under three minutes of play. However, Hollins missed a few free throws and after a pair of turnovers, the edge had been cut to five. The Green and Gold would not let the Royals any closer and closed out the game with a 59-54 victory.
  • Mutz and Carter each registered double-doubles. 17 points and 18 rebounds gave Mutz, the ODAC's leading rebounder, her second double-double of the week while the first-year, Carter, finished the night with 14 points, 12 boards and two steals. Funderburk (10) and Gutierrez (11) made it four Hollins scores in double figures.
