The Lead: Washington and Lee used a pair of big run to help secure a win over Hollins Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.
Highlights:
- Kayla Surles paced Hollins with a game and a season-high 22 points in the loss. Tia Tucker scored 21 points, brought in eight rebounds, and came away with three steals. Cabria Mutz added a career-high 11 points and three blocks. Xavia Hahn chipped in with eight points and seven boards.
- A back and forth first quarter saw Hollins score six of the final eight points that helped HU to a 27-24 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- W&L scored the first 12 points of the second quarter on its way to outscoring Hollins 22-9 to take a 46-36 lead at halftime.
- The Generals led 58-42 midway through third quarter, but Hollins fought back, cutting its deficit to nine points thanks to a 7-0 run that was capped by a Moriah Hill three pointer with 3:12 to play.
- With the lead still nine with 1:36 left to play in the third, W&L went on a 20-7 run to close the quarter and into the fourth to put the game away.
- Megan Horn had with 14 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks to lead the Generals.
Up Next: Hollins will be back at home for the first time since Dec. 8 when it takes on Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 p.m. in an ODAC game.
