The Lead:Â Five players scored in double figures as Hollins ran past visiting Virginia Wesleyan 91-42 in ODAC Women's Hoops Wednesday night in Roanoke.
Highlights:
- Hollins, which shot 59.7% for the game, was paced by Unoma Aguolu who had 19 points to lead all scorers. Aguolu also had a game-high seven assists, grabbed five rebounds, and had three steals.
- Hollins knocked down 12 three pointers in the win, led by Kayla Surles who connected on four shots from beyond the arc, on her way to a 17 point, five assist night.
- Rebekah Funderburk had a career-high 10 points and snared a game-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
- Cabria Mutz chipped in with a career-high 10 points to go along with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- In addition, Tia Tucker had 10 points and dished out four assists and Jalaya Duarte had eight points, six rebounds and three steals.
- HU had all 10 players score in the contest, out rebounded VWC 44-29, recorded 14 steals a team and assisted on 22-of-37 made field goals.
- The Green and Gold led wire-to-wire as it was ahead 16-6 after the first quarter and then went on a 10-2 run to start the second to take a 26-8 advantage.
- Leading 44-25 with just over eight minutes to go in the third quarter, HU scored 18 of the final 22 points to lead 62-29 heading into the final quarter.
- Hollins opened the fourth quarter with a 20-3 run as it stretch its lead to 50 on a Surles three-pointer with just over four minutes to go in the game.
- Hollins has now won the last three meeting with the Marlins.
