Shenandoah Pulls Away from Hollins Hoops

The Lead: A 13-0 Shenandoah run at the end of the third quarter into the start of the fourth quarter proved to be the difference, as SU topped Hollins 76-61 in ODAC Women's Basketball on Saturday.

Highlights:
  • Tia Tucker recorded her first career double-double as she scored 10 points and pulled down a game and career high 14 rebounds. Tucker also had five steals in the loss. HU had four players in double-figures led by Kayla Surles with 19. Unoma Aguolu had 16 points and Jalaya Duarte chipped in with 10 points.
  • SU took a 20-9 lead with two minutes to go in the first quarter before Hollins would score the last six points of the quarter with a Tucker jumper making it a 20-15 game.
  • HU opened the second quarter by scoring the first seven points, taking a 22-20 lead on a Tucker bucket with 8:15 to play in the first-half.
  • A Duarte three-pointer with just over a minute left pushed the HU lead to 35-31. SU rallied and scored the final seven points of the quarter to take a 38-35 advantage into halftime.
  • Duarte drained a three in the first minute of the third quarter to make the score 40-38 Shenandoah. SU would then score the next six points to go back up by eight with 6:28 remaining.
  • HU rallied with a 10-3 run that was capped by an Aguolu three-pointer that made it a 49-48 game with under two minutes to go in the third quarter.
  • On Shenandoah's ensuing possession, Sarah Sondrel knocked down a three-pointer and sparked what would prove to be a 13-0 run from the final minute and half of the third quarter, and the first two minutes of the fourth quarter.
  • Terese Greene led four Hornets in double-digits with 19 points.
 Up Next: Hollins will be back at home on Wednesday when it takes on Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
