Hollins Drops ODAC Road Contest to Roanoke

The Lead: Hollins dropped a 78-55 ODAC Women's Basketball contest to Roanoke Wednesday evening in Salem.

Highlights:
  • Hollins got a team-high 20 points from Unoma Aguolu. Xavia Hahn came off the bench to score a season-high 10 points, while Kayla Surles and Tia Tucker each had eight points. Tucker also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to help HU to a 41-40 edge on the glass.
  • The first quarter saw neither team able to open up more than a four-point lead. RC led 19-17 when a Jalaya Duarte offensive rebound and put back tied the game with just over a minute to go in the quarter. Morgan Micallef knocked down a three-pointer with 36 seconds left in the quarter to give RC a 22-19 after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • A pair of Surles free-throws made the score 28-25 with just under eight minutes to go in the half. On RC's ensuing possession, Renee Alquiza knocked down a three-pointer and then was given a pair of free-throws because of a foul after the shot which she converted to make it a 33-25 game.
  • An Aguolu jumper cut the RC lead to 39-31 with three minutes to play in the second quarter but Roanoke would score eight of the final 11 points of the quarter to take a 47-33 lead into the intermission.
  • The Maroons came out in the second-half and used a 13-5 run to open up a 60-38 lead midway through the third quarter.
  • Alquiza scored a game-high 21 points in the win for RC. Kristina Harrel had 16 points while Jabryah Haverkamp scored 18 points off the bench.
