HU Pushes Win Streak to Three With 76-71 Victory Over Sewanee at Agnes Scott Tournament

The Lead:  The Hollins University ran its winning streak to three games with a 76-71 win over Sewanee in the final day of the Agnes Scott Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.  

Highlights
  • Hollins got a team-high 23 points in the win from Unoma Aguolu. Jalaya Duarte knocked down five three-pointers on her way to 21 points in the victory. Tia Tucker made of 6-of-9 shots from the field to notch 16 points, while Kayla Surles had 11 points to go along with nine assists.
  • Hollins trailed 8-5 early in first quarter but a 12-0 run capped by a Surles three-pointer put HU up 17-8 in the final minute.
  • The Green and Gold stretched its lead to 18-11 in the first minute of the second quarter before the Tigers scored 10 unanswered points to go up 21-18.
  • Following an HU timeout, Duarte tied the game at 21. The teams would play even for the final 6:30 with Sewanee holding a slim 31-30 lead at halftime.
  • HU trailed 45-40 midway through the third quarter when it scored nine of the next 11 points, taking a 49-47 lead when Duarte drained a jumper with just under two minutes to play. 
  • Sewanee would tie the game at 49, but HU would score six of the eight points to lead 55-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Hollins scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to push its lead to nine points with 8:35 to go in the game.
  • Sewanee rallied and would eventually lead 69-68 with under two minutes to go.
  • A jumper by Aguolu would give HU the lead for good with just over a minute to go. Hollins would then get a defensive stop and go 6-fo-6 from the free-throw line to ice the game.
Up Next: Hollins returns home on Wednesday when it opens up ODAC play at 7:00 p.m. against Guilford.
