The Hollins tennis team took to the courts for the first time this season. The team traveled to West Virginia to compete in the two day Bluefield College Invitational. Eight different Hollins players competed in six singles and three doubles flights. However the rainy weather cut the event short as only the singles flights were played to completion.
Sophomore Madeline Perry (Virginia Beach, VA) led the Hollins team with a third place finish in flight three singles. Perry was one of three different Hollins tennis players that placed in the top four of their various flights. Perry bested teammate Ashley Gao (Pearland, TX) in the third place match of flight three. Perry came out on top, 8-4, as Gao finished fourth. Senior Tiffany Hodges (Vinton, VA) lost her first match before fighting back to win, 8-5, earning her way into the third place match of flight two singles. Hodges fell in the consolation match to earn a fourth place finish in her flight.
Hollins will return to action in the ultra competitive ITA Regional Tournament next weekend. The event will cover three days, Friday thru Sunday, and be hosted by Mary Washington University.
