Alex Puryear came to Hollins in the spring of 2023 as the, full time, volleyball assistant coach.
Prior to coming to Hollins, Puryear served as the assistant volleyball coach at Northside High School in Roanoke. While ith the Vikings, Puryear also worked with the girl's soccer program. Alex has worked several camps, including at the University of Virginia and at Roanoke College her alma mater. In addition, Puryear has assisted in numerous youth volleyball educational settings.
The James River High School graduate went to Roanoke College in the fall of 2016 and made an immediate impact for the Maroons. In her first season she played in 26 matches, amassing 229 kills from her outside hitting position. In just two seasons at Roanoke Puryear recorded 404 kills, 240 digs, and 28 total blocks while being named a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Sportsmanship Team in 2016 and '17. Her playing career ws cut short due to injury but that didn't impact the affect the Puryear had on the Salem, Va. campus. She was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Societies. As a Resident Advisor (RA), Alex was named Best New RA and twice received the Roanoke College Residence Life and Housing Outstanding Service Award.
Puryear graduated, Cum Laude, from Roanoke College in May of 2020 with her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree.
