The Lead: The Hollins tennis team made the trip to Winston-Salem (N.C.) to play a pair of matches on Saturday morning. The Green and Gold had a rematch with Johnson & Wales at 10:30 before facing their hosts from Salem College later in the afternoon. Hollins had one of their best showings of the season in a 1-6 loss to the Wildcats. Against the Spirits, HU would get swept 7-0, despite leading early in four of the nine matchups.

Highlights:

vs J&W:
  • At the top doubles spot, Rachel Hull and Zilina Robinson-Knox were tied in the early stages of the matchup before eventually falling, 6-2.
  • The #2 doubles team of Sasha Mingo and Anna Starman took a 1-0 lead at the first changeover before falling to the Wildcat duo.
  • At #4 singles, Starman picked up her first collegiate win with a 6-2 and 6-1 victory over her JWU opponent.
  • Sadie Henshaw led in her match at #6. Despite dropping the point, 6-2 and 6-3, it was one of her best career outings.
Vs Salem:
  • Mingo and Starman once again found themselves in front early, but fatigue started to set in on Hollins as the duo would fall, 6-1.
  • At #5 singles, Jade Thompson started strong, trailing 5-4 in the opening set but Yuri Santana-Dominguez rallied to win the point, 6-4 and 6-1.
  • Starman looked poised to win her second consecutive match. However, playing her fourth match of the day, Starman would see her Salem foe rally from 5-4 and 5-3 to take the match 7-5 and 7-5.
Up Next: Hollins was scheduled to travel to Shenandoah on Tuesday, but the freezing temperatures have forced a postponement, with a reschedule to be determined. Next for HU will be a visit from Sweet Briar to the Batten Tennis Center on Thursday for a 4:00pm, pre-Spring Break match with the Vixens.
