The Lead:Â Hollins came into their matchup with Eastern Mennonite riding a four-match win streak, including two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) wins in a row. The Royals used a 9-1 run to seize control of the opening set and a 1-0 lead. Hollins flipped the script in the second set on their way to tying the score at 1-1. HU trailed 24-19 in the third set but mounted a rally to take the lead at 25-24. EMU won the next three points for a 2-1 edge and all the momentum. The Royals rode that momentum to a fourth set victory to take the match, 3-1.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins fell to Eastern Mennonite 19-25, 25-15, 25-27, 10-25.
- With the score tied at 2-2, the visitors from Harrisonburg scored nine of the next 10 points to take control and hold on for a 1-0 lead.
- The second set was again tied early, 3-3, before a Hollins run gave the home team a 7-3 edge. EMU rallied to tie the score a t9-9 before Hollins took over with an 8-1 run and pulled away for a second set win.
- Hollins trailed 24-19 when a Bella Schultz kill gave the serve to Laken Tingler. Tingler served Hollins to a 25-24 advantage. On set point, Tingler appeared to record a service ace but a tremendous play by the Royals Libero allowed Emu to tie the score at 25 apiece. The Royal won the next two points for a 2-1 lead.
- With all the momentum on their side, Eastern Mennonite pulled away in the fourth for a 3-1 ODAC win.
- Norah Madrey had a great night at the net. The sophomore had nine kills on 19 attacks without an error, a .474 hitting percentage. Schultz had six kills with Cassidy Henderson adding five.
- Meredith Crawley served three aces while recording 14 digs. Evelyn Harris served a pair of aces to go with her 14 assists.
