The Lead: Hollins Played Warren Wilson on the first night of the 2025 Empowerment Classic. The Green and Gold took the court against the Owls after William Peace took care of Agnes Scott in the opener. Hollins jumped on their guests early, racing out to a 9-2 advantage on their way to a 40-10 halftime lead. Warren Wilson came out of the break and scored 11 of the first 13 points of the second half. Hollins was able to regain control with a 10-0 run and pulled away on the fourth for the 87-34 home opening win to the 2025-26 season.
Highlights
- Sarah Morales scored the first four points of the evening and when Abby Kingery hit her first three of the night, Hollins opened the game on a 9-0 run. To close the period, Jacorra Russell scored followed by another Morales bucket to make it 21-2.
- With the score 25-10, HU wouldn't allow the Owls to score the final five minutes of the first half and took a 40-10 lead into the locker room.
- Erina Allen hit a free throw to halt an 11-2 run by Warren Wilson to start the second half. Another Kingery three and a Gracie Huffard jump shot got Hollins to 50.
- The Green and Gold ended the quarter on a 4-1 run and opened the fourth with a 6-0 run to seize control for good. Missy Hazard hit one of her five threes to push the lead to 40 and an Erin Allen hoop increased the HU edge 50 on their way to their fourth win of the season.
- Zaria Holden posted the first triple-double in a Hollins unform in over a decade with 10 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals. Hazard scored 15 on 5-10 shooting from long range as the junior eclipsed the 100 made 3-pointer mark for her career. Morales finished with 20 points while Huffard added 14 points and five blocked shots. Russell filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and three steals.
