The Lead: For the final time this regular season, the Hollins basketball team was action when they made the trip to face Eastern Mennonite. HU defeated the Royals back on January 3
rd and looked to complete the season sweep. Eastern Mennonite took a double-digit lead into the half. Hollins rallied late in the fourth but it wasn't enough as the home team held on for the 66-54 win.
Highlights
- Zaria Holden connected on a free throw, before EMU scored the next 10 points to take control of the game. Trailing by 11, Cabria Mutz and Holden scored to close the period, but the Green and Gold would be down 18-11 after the first quarter of play.
- A 7-0 Royal run started the second period before back-to-back 3-pointers by Missy Hazard and Ariana Gutierrez got HU back into the game. The EMU lead grew to 15, however Hollins closed the half by closing the gap to 11 at the break.
- Sarah Morales scored to start the second half, but HU couldn't sustain the momentum and went into the final quarter of the regular season down by 14.
- A pair of Noelani Carter free throws followed by buckets by Mutz and Iyana Sigei would cut the deficit to 10. Twice Morales would cut the lead to single digits, but Hollins couldn't complete the comeback, falling to the Royals 66-54.
- Morales led Hollins with 13 points, three assists, and four rebounds while Holden added 11 points. Mutz finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and six blocked shots. Mutz broke her own school record with 68 blocks for the season and now is the Hollins career leader with 158 blocked shots in just three seasons of play.
