The Lead: The Hollins basketball team took her 7-1 record on the road for a post-Christmas trip to Maryland to face Hood. The teams would play the opener even and at the half, it would be the home team with the slightest of advantages, 25-24. Hollins would be down three late in the game but a three-pointer tied it and the teams would head to overtime. Hollins would not score in the extra frame as they fell on the road, 59-49.

Highlights
  • Noelani Carter opened and Zaria Holden ended an 8-0 run to start the game for the Green and Gold. Hood battled back using a 12-4 final five minutes to tie the game at 12-12.
  • Sarah Morales put Hollins up by one in the closing seconds of the first half only to see the Blazers score just before the horn to take a one-point edge into the locker room.
  • Hood scored the first four points of the second half but when Holden hit a free throw with 4:30 on the clock, Hollins was down by just a single hoop. Down five, Grayson Alfano connected from deep before a Blazer bucket made it 38-34 with one period left to play.
  • With 7:00 left to play, Carter hit a driving layup to cut the HU deficit to six. Cabria Mutz came out of the timeout and scored one three consecutive possessions to tie the game at 44-44. Another Mutz offensive board and stick back would put HU in front.
  • The game was tied and Hollins missed two opportunities to retake the lead only to see a three pointer fall for the Blazers. Mutz finds Morales for a game tying three with just 1:00 left to play. Hollins got a stop and had a chance to win with 2.5 seconds left to go but they were unable to connect and the game headed to overtime.
  • In the extra frame, Hollins would struggle from the field as Hood took the extra period 10-0 for the 59-49, non-conference win.
  • Mutz led the way with 14 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and a blocked shot. Holden and Morales each scored nine while Carter finished with four points and a game high 10 boards.
