The Lead: The 2024-25 basketball season got under way on Friday night when Hollins traveled to Georgia to face Brenau in the first game of the Agnes Scott Tip-Off Tournament. HU led early but the Golden Tigers took a five-point lead into the second quarter and pushed their advantage to six, 37-31 at the break. A Hollins rally would see the deficit cut to one, 52-51, heading into the finale. With the game tied at 60-60, a 9-0 Hollins run put the Green and Gold ahead to stay on their way to a 10-point win.

Highlights
  • Trailing 3-0, Cabria Mutz hit a turn-around jump shot to score the first points of the season. A pair of Noelani Carter free throws and the Green and Gold took the lead. A Carter layup made it 10-8 but Brenau closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a five-point edge.
  • The Brenau lead grew to eight before a Moriah Hill three-pointer got HU back into the game. Grayson Alfano made it 26-27 with a shot from long range before seeing the Golden Tigers close the final 3:00 with a 10-5 surge.
  • Hollins mounted a comeback and after Missy Hazard connected from deep, HU led 43-42 with just over three-minutes in the period. Carter scored on a feed from Zaria Holden to make it a one-point game heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Alfano hit a three to open the quarter, but it was quickly answered by the Tigers. With just over five minutes on the clock, a driving layup by Mutz resulted in a three-point play and a 63-60 lead. Holden followed with a long-range bucket to force a Brenau timeout. A pair of Holden free throws capped the 9-0 run to make it 69-60. Hollins made their free throws down the stretch for a 76-66, season opening, win.
  • Mutz led the way with 17 points, 12 rebounds, a block and a steal. Sarah Morales and Carter each scored 13 while Holden added 10.
  • Hollins went 8-20 from the 3-point line, two makes each by Hill, Hazard, and Alfano.
