The Lead:Â After opening the 2023 season on Friday, the Hollins soccer team went on the road for the first time for a Sunday afternoon matchup in our nation's capital. Hollins jumped on Gallaudet early, scoring in the opening minutes and took a 2-1 edge into the break. Hollins came out and did not allow a shot on goal in the second half as the Green and Gold pulled away for the 7-1 victory. It was the first win under head coach
Kat Van Orden and the first for HU since a 2-0 win over Sweet Briar on October 23, 2019.
HighlightsÂ
- Hollins got on the board just over three minutes into the match when first-year Evelin Lemus-Arriaga picked up a loose ball and beat the keeper.
- It would be 2-0 when Anna Starman put one in the low right corner allowing Hollins to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
- Less than seven minutes into eh second half, Izzy Workman added to the lead and then assisted on another Starman tally.
- After Lemus-Arriaga scored again, Faith Falter scored back-to-back to finish the 7-1, road victory.
- HU enjoyed a 27-5 shot edge and pulled away despite 10 Bison saves.
- Cat Bussani got the start in goal, recording a pair of saves. Bussani was relieved after a collision by T Shover mid-way through the first half. Shover stopped one of the two shots she faced.
