The Lead: The Hollins soccer team took the field for the final time this season when they made the long trip across the state to face Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins, ranked #1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) coming into the matchup would use six, first half, goals to take control and pick up their ninth ODAC win of the season, 9-0.
Highlights
  • A quick score and two in the opening 10 minutes of play would give the Marlins the advantage.
  • A 17-1 edge in shots would see the home team p 6-0 at the break. The second half would continue to see the heavily favored ODAC leaders keep the ball on the Hollins end of the turf as VWU would claim the win and put themselves atop the ODAC standings heading into the postseason.
  • Trailing 3-0, Izzy Workman got free for a one-on-one with the Marlin keeper but the shot was saved to keep HU off the board. In the second half, Workman was able to get the ball deep into the Virginia Wesleyan zone once again, but the shot was off the mark.
  • Cat Bussani, playing her final game in goal, registered 11 saves, giving the senior an ODAC leading 142 on the season.
