The Lead: The annual matchup of crosstown rivals was hosted at Hollins as Ronaoke made the short trip north on Wednesday night. In each of the first two sets, it would be the Maroons that would pull away in the closing stages to take a 2-0 edge. In the third, Roanoke had worn down their hosts and went on to the 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

Highlights 

• HU fell to RC by a score of 25-17, 25-19, 25-12 
• Roanoke would hold a 17-15 lead in the opener before pulling away. In the 2nd set, Hollins would take a 13-11 advantage only to see their guests from Salem surge late for the win. 
• The attack numbes were fairly even but it was the 12-1 RC advantage in service aces that would help the Maroons to the win.
• Faith Schaefer led the Green and Gold with nine kills while Carrie Nelson added seven and Kenna Esquibel would chip in with six, as HU used a balanced attck to record 28 kills. Jaelyn Werley and Zoe Brooks combined to help on 25 net points.
• Defensively, Nelson and Selena Wolfe would combine for four of Hollins six blocks while Zoe Miranda and her 13 digs would lead the back row.
