LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Green and Gold tennis team had their best showing of the young 2021 season on Saturday as they traveled to Lynchburg to take on Randolph. They dropped the contest 1-8, but many matches were a lot closer than the score indicated with multiple sets going to tiebreakers.
Doubles Highlights
-The #1 doubles team of
Emily Jones and
Elizabeth Eubank dropped an 0-8 match to Randolph and
Amanda Dobert and
Katherine Komarek fell 2-8 at #2.
-The #3 team of
Carlia Kearney and
Isabelle Ingwerson battled against Randolph and took the match to a tiebreaker before falling in extras 1-7 and losing the match 7-8.
SIngles Highlights
-Komarek picked up her first collegiate win of her career, picking up a straight set win at #6. She took down Randolph's Amanda Jagdeo, 6-4, 6-1.
-Ingwerson dropped the first set to Randolph at #4, 2-6, before a strong second set forced a 6-all tiebreaker. The Wildcat's Jenna Fink ultimately took the tiebreaker 7-5, and won the final set 7-6.
-Eubank and Dobert and Kearney, playing at #1, #2 and #3, respectively, fell 0-6, 0-6 in all three of their matches.
-Jones rounded out singles play for the Green and Gold, coming in at #5. She fell to Randolph 1-6, 2-6.
Hollins will be back in action next weekend. They'll head to Sweet Briar to take on the VIxens on Friday at 3 pm before making the trek down to Ferrum to try to take the Panthers on Saturday. That match is slated to start at 1 pm.
