LYNCHBURG, Va. - Sometimes, it's just not your night. 

Lynchburg shot 43% from the field, had 11 different players score and held Hollins to just 21% from three en route to an 80-46 win over the Green and Gold. 

How It Happened

The Hornets jumped out to an early lead, puilling ahead 6-0 before Serena Lytton put Hollins (9-9, 4-8 ODAC) on the board. After Lytton's bucket, Lynchburg (9-9, 6-6 ODAC) outscored Hollins 15-9 for the rest of the quarter and took a 21-11 lead after one. 

Both teams traded baskets to start the second quarter as Lynchburg maintained their double-digit lead. But, with HU trailing by 11, a layup from Keyazia Taylor and a three from Kayla Surles brought Hollins back within six. UL pulled back ahead by ten before another Kayla Surles three, followed by a Keenan Surles layup cut the lead to five. Lynchburg used a pair of freethrows to take a 32-25 lead into the break. 

Kayla Surles and Lenah Clements sandwiched a Hornet basket to bring Hollins within four at 34-30. Unfortunately, Lynchburg ended the quarter on a 17-7 run to take a 14 point lead into the final frame. 

The fourth was one Hollins hopes to forget, as they were 0-7 from three while Lynchburg shot 59% from the field, outscoring HU 29-9 in the quarter. 

HU was led by Kayla Surles' game-high 16 points. Lytton, the only other player in double figures for Hollins, had 10. Yasmine Tyler finished with eight points and six rebounds. 

Stat of the Game

-Lynchburg outrebounded HU 58-25 and turned 25 offensive rebounds into 33 second chance points.

What's Next

Hollins will look to get back in the win column as they welcome Virginia Wesleyan to Roanoke on Saturday. Saturday's game, which is slated for a 2 pm tipoff, is a Hollins basketball alumnae reunion.
