Basketball Drops Road Game at Randolph-Macon

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. - Hollins came out blazing on Saturday, hitting their first three shots of the game and taking a 7-0 lead over Randolph-Macon.

Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, they couldn't continue their hot streak while RMC's Kelly Williams showed why she was a former All-American as the Yellow Jackets downed Hollins 73-58.

How It Happened

As mentioned, Hollins (9-8, 4-7 ODAC) came out shooting, as Lenah Clements, Serena Lytton and Keyazia Taylor all made their first shots, putting HU ahead. Randolph-Macon (8-8, 7-4 ODAC) finally got on the board when Williams came away with the hoop and harm. Both offenses were stagnant for the next three minutes until, with HU still leading 7-3, RMC went on a 19-7 surge and took a 22-14 lead after one.

The Yellow Jackets started the second on an 8-2 before Kayla Surles scored five straight, Yasmine Tyler hit a layup and Sydney Strange drained a three, making the score 30-26 and forcing a Randolph-Macon timeout. The two teams traded points out of the timeout until RMC was able to extend their lead to six, 38-32, to end the half.

The third quarter was not friendly to the Green and Gold, as RMC scored the first 12 points of the period and Hollins was held without a bucket until the 4:07 mark. Kayla Surles hit back-to-back threes, ending the drought and cutting the lead down to 14.

Hollins outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-14 in the final frame, but by then, the damage was done.

Kayla Surles continued her impressive season, scoring 17 points, while Lytton hit double-digits again, adding 12.

-Stats of the Game

-Randolph-Macon shot a blistering 50% from behind the arc while holding HU to just 32%

-The Yellow Jackets won the rebound battle 55-33, including 21-6 on the offensive glass.
