Box Score Event: Tennie - Randolph at Hollins (Roanoke, VA)
The lead: In the week leading up to Spring Break, the Hollins tennis team kicked off a four match home stand with a visit from Randolph College on Monday afternoon.
The result: Randolph 9-0
How it happened: The WildCats had no problems in taking a 2-0 advantage after #1 and #3 doubles. However, the two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals were engaged in a dual at the #2 spot. Hollins trailed the Randolph duo, 7-6, but couldn't complete the comeback and fell, 6-8, giving the Cats a 3-0 lead. Randolph was poised to complete the sweep, with all the matches finished except a battle at #3 singles. Sarah Jordan Snoddy found herself down 9-4 in a third set, 10 point tie-breaker. The junior battled back to tie the match at 10-10 before her opponent won consecutive points to conclude the match.
Hollins notes:
- Snoddy battled five match points to battle back and forced the extension to the third set tie breaker
- Kateri Johnson and Alexis Morring just missed the upset in #2 doubles
- At #3 doubles, Elizabeth Eubank and Anna Holland fell 8-2
What's next: The first of back-to-back, home, non-conference matches will take place on Sunday when Salem College comes for a rematch of a match in Winston-Salem back in the fall.
