Box Score Roanoke, VA -Hollins hosted Roanoke College for a tennis match that started on Thursday afternoon and was finally completed on Friday due to hail and lightning that caused the match to be halted over night.
The three doubles matches were able to be completed before the bad weather rolled into the valley, with Roanoke taking all three of the matchups. The singles matches got started but shortly after the start, rain, hail, and lightning halted play for the evening. On Friday, the match resumed and was played under the same agreement as the previous night. The match was to be called after one of the long time Old Dominion Conference (ODAC) rivals reached five wins.
At #1 singles, first-year Gaelin McLeod won the first set over Emily Henderson, 6-3, and the two were engaged in a tight second frame when the match was called. Roanoke picked up wins at #2 and #3 singles, giving the Maroons a 5-0 lead and ending the match.
Hollins had to adjust their schedule for the weekend. The original schedule had Shenandoah University coming to town tomorrow with a visit from Averett on Sunday. Because of the forecasted frigid temperatures and high winds, the match with the Hornets has been moved to Sunday at 1:00pm. With the move to accommodate ODAC play, the match with the Cougars had to be canceled.
