Box Score Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins University tennis team went on the road for the final time this season as they traveled to Bridgewater in their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) finale. The trip gave Hollins a chance to build on some recent momentum that has seen the team come up just short in their last two ODAC matches.
Prior to the match, head coach Brian Kastner made some minor adjustments to his doubles teams in hopes of getting off to a good start on the road. However, it was the home standing Eagles that earned the early lead by sweeping the doubles matchups and taking a 3-0 advantage.
Hollins rallied quickly by winning the top two spots in singles play. Gaelin McLeod won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3, at #1 singles. Hollins made it a sweep of the top seeds as Jhovanna Salmeron won a hard fought, three set, match at #2 (2-6, 7-6, 10-8). Bridgewater wouldn't allow their guests to get any closer and ran the table in the remaining, four, singles matches for a 7-2 conference victory.
Hollins will complete her 2016 regular season tomorrow when they play host to their long time foes from Sweet Briar College. The match with their arch rivals is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
